Why I still believe websites don't need to shout

It sounds like an odd place to begin, but it is probably the truth.

I have never been particularly interested in things that shout for attention. Quite the opposite.  I have always admired the things that simply work. A beautifully designed chair. A well laid out newspaper.  A road sign that tells you exactly where you need to go without making you think about it.

​

Good websites are much the same.  The best ones rarely feel clever.  They do not overwhelm you with animations or try to impress you with the latest design trend.  They simply make you feel comfortable.  You know where to click.  You find what you were looking for.  You leave with a good impression of the business behind them.  That is much harder to achieve than most people realise.

​

I have lost count of the number of excellent businesses I have come across with websites that simply do not reflect who they are.  Family businesses with years of experience.

 

Tradespeople who genuinely care about their customers.  Independent shops with wonderful products.  They were not being let down by the business itself.  They were being let down by the first impression they were giving online.

​

I do not believe a website has to be extraordinary, it simply has to feel like it belongs to the business it represents.

​

One of the conversations I have most often starts with the same sentence.

​

"I have been trying to build it myself."  I completely understand why.

​

Wix is an excellent platform.  It is one of the reasons I use it every day.  But opening it for the first time can feel overwhelming.  You start with a blank page, hundreds of design decisions and a growing list of questions.  Which template should I choose?  Why does this not line up properly?  Why does it look different on my phone?  Before long, what was supposed to be an enjoyable weekend project becomes another task that sits on tomorrow's list.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with trying.  In fact, I think every business owner should have a go.  It helps you understand your own business far better than you did before.  But there comes a point where your time is better spent running your business than wrestling with layouts, spacing and mobile breakpoints.

That is usually where I come in.

A Wix 'Legend' Partner?  What is one of those?  

​

It is a fair question.  Unless you have spent time looking into website design, there is every chance you have never heard the term before.

​

Put simply, a Wix Partner (Legend Status) is someone recognised by Wix for consistently designing and building websites on their platform.  It is not something you buy, apply for or receive simply by creating a few websites.  It is earned over time by delivering work for real businesses.

​

What that really means for you is experience.

​

I know the platform inside out.  I know what works, what does not, and perhaps more importantly, what is worth spending time on and what is not.  It means I can concentrate on designing a website that reflects your business, rather than learning how the platform works as I go.

​

Every website I build starts life on my own Wix Partner account.  Whether it is a brand new website or a complete redesign of an existing one, I develop everything there before transferring ownership into your own Wix account once the project is complete.  From that point on, the website belongs entirely to you.

​

If you would like ongoing support afterwards, I am always happy to continue working with you as a collaborator.  If you would rather manage the website yourself, that is absolutely fine too. There are no contracts, no hidden catches and no obligation to keep me involved once the site is live.

​

I think websites should work in much the same way as any good professional relationship. You should feel supported when you need it, and completely in control when you do not.
